This is a staple, and is the perfect comfort food. Creamy chicken smothered in a simple sauce seasoned with paprika.
Hungarian Chicken Paprikash
This is an easy recipe to make, with maximum taste results.
- 8 pieces chicken (thighs work great)
- 2-3 tbsp olive oil, butter, or margarine
- 1 lrg onion
- 3 tbsp Hungarian paprika (use regular if you don't have Hungarian
- 1 tbsp Hungarian paprika paste (if you can find it)
- 1 med green bell pepper
- 2-3 small tomatoes
- 1 cup sour cream
- 2-3 tbsp flour
- 1-2 cups water (as needed)
Prepare your ingredients.
Saute onion until tender
Add green pepper, salt, pepper, - and chicken
Saute 10-20 min browning both sides of chicken
Take off heat and add paprika.
Add tomatoes and cook for a minute or 2
Add water, cover and simmer until chicken is tender. (about 45 min)
Take chicken out of sauce.
Mix sour cream and 1/4 C water. Add flour and stir until no lumps.
Add to heated sauce stirring constantly until thick.
Add chicken and Hungarian dumplings. Heat through. Serve
You can make this without the tomatoes. Sometimes you may need to add more water and more Hungarian Paprika to the sauce.
